WRITERS THEATRE (Writers), one of the Chicago area’s premiere theatres, is seeking candidates to lead the company into a bright and resilient future through a deep spirit of collaboration, a full embrace of inclusivity and community connections, and highly creative talent for realizing extraordinary theatrical experiences as its next Artistic Director. The Artistic Director will serve as Writers’ programming lead, moving the dial on the company’s already respected and highly lauded reputation as a theatrical force dedicated to telling stories in an intimate approach through a welcoming lens. The Artistic Director will serve in partnership with Writers’ Executive Director and co-lead the staff in a manner that honors and celebrates individual contributions to the greater success of the institution, fiercely advocating for and protecting a nurturing space for artists, artisans, administrators, and supporters to feel safe, supported, and invited to offer their whole creative selves. As Writers Theatre considers its next chapter in a post-founder era, the Artistic Director will build upon the company’s storied history and find new ways to connect audiences to artistic work in compelling ways that seek to always build community and invite dialogue around important and relevant topics and themes impacting contemporary life.
