Circle Theatre Announces 32nd Season

Circle Theatre, a professional regional theatre located in Fort Worth's Sundance Square, has announced its upcoming 32nd season.

In keeping with its mission to support today's playwrights, Circle Theatre's 2013 season features award-winning plays by Yasmina Reza (God of Carnage) and Samuel D. Hunter (A Bright New Boise). Hunter's The Whale is currently receiving rave reviews for its production in New York.

Circle Theatre will introduce playwright Lauren Gunderson to Fort Worth audiences. Ms. Gunderson (Exit, Pursued by a Bear) is a prolific writer who is winning increased recognition as an emerging female voice in American theatre.

Circle will also present its third play by Tom Dudzick. Harry Parker, who directed all of the Theatre's past Dudzick productions, will return in 2013 to direct Dudzick's play, Miracle on South Division Street.

Steven Pounders, recently seen on stage at Circle Theatre in Bach at Leipzig and Mistakes Were Made, will guest-direct A Bright New Boise. And Krista Scott (seen at Circle Theatre in Boeing-Boeing) will guest-direct Exit, Pursued by a Bear.

Robin Armstrong, director of Circle's hit productions of Unnecessary Farce, Boeing-Boeing, Incorruptible, and See How They Run will direct a newly arrived farce from Canada, titled Too Many Cooks. Ms. Armstrong will also direct Circle's opening production, God of Carnage.

Circle Theatre plans to present five main stage productions, opening with God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza. Previews will begin January 24. Opening night is January 26, and the show will run through February 23.

Season ticket holders may make reservations for God of Carnage beginning December 19. General public sales will begin January 7.

Alan & Annette invite Michael & Veronica to their home in an attempt to amicably resolve the consequences of their children's playground altercation. It doesn't take long before this civilized discussion spirals downhill into a savagely funny comedy of (bad) manners. Reza's play begs the question - How can we expect children to act like grown-ups if adults cannot control their own behavior? (Adult Language)

A Bright New Boise
Written by Samuel D. Hunter
Directed by Steven Pounders
March 21 - April 13
Opening Night: March 23

2011 Obie Award for Playwriting

A mysterious stranger, named Will, takes a job at the Hobby Lobby in Boise, Idaho in order to reconnect with his estranged son, Adam. As fellow employees begin to uncover dark secrets from his past, and his son becomes increasingly interested in why he left his church, Will must make a choice. Can he have a normal life and a healthy relationship with his son, or should he hold onto the beliefs that give his life meaning? (Adult Language)

Miracle on South Division Street
Written by Tom Dudzick
Directed by Harry Parker
June 13 - July 13
Opening Night: June 15

The Nowaks were always rock-solid members of the Roman Catholic Church. In 1943, Clara's father had a vision about the Virgin Mary preaching world peace. To commemorate this vision, he built a twenty-foot shrine of the Blessed Mother and erected it in front of his barbershop. Literally keeping the faith all these years, Clara has maintained the statue, despite the deterioration of their neighborhood. Now, her daughter has stopped going to mass, her son is dating a Jewish girl, and a revealed deathbed confession is unraveling the family legend with unexpectedly hilarious results.

Exit, Pursued by a Bear
Written by Lauren Gunderson
Directed by Krista Scott
August 15 - September 14
Opening Night: August 17
