Dallas Theater Center Presents A CHRISTMAS CAROL, Opening 11/13

Dallas Theater Center will present Dickens' classic tale, A Christmas Carol, at the historic Kalita Humphreys Theater. DTC Associate Artistic Director Joel Ferrell will direct and choreograph this festive holiday story of redemption and forgiveness that has become a holiday tradition for DTC and for theater-goers across North Texas. This year marks the eighth and final season for this version of A Christmas Carol, which runs from Tuesday, November 20 – Sunday, December 23. "Our annual production of A Christmas Carol allows Dallas Theater Center to play a special role for many North Texans during the holiday season," says artistic director Kevin Moriarty. "Whether by continuing a holiday theater-going tradition for family audiences or through our impactful community partnership with the North Texas Food Bank, A Christmas Carol expresses DTC's most centrally held values."

DTC Brierley Resident Acting Company member and long-time Dallas favorite Chamblee Ferguson makes his triumphant return to the role of Ebenezer Scrooge, a mean and miserly old man with a disdain for the joys of holiday merriment. When Scrooge is visited by four apparitions who offer childhood memories and the promise of an unpleasant future, the old man recognizes the error of his behavior and sets out to repair damaged relationships and spread holiday cheer along the way.

Additional Brierley Resident Company members include Hassan El-Amin (Fezziwig), Tiffany Hobbs (Belle), Liz Mikel (Ghost of Christmas Present), Lee Trull (Fred), Christie Vela (Mrs. Cratchit) and Steven Michael Walters (Bob Cratchit). Returning to Dallas Theater Center are Brian Gonzales, who recently appeared on Broadway in One Man, Two Guvnors, and Alex Ross (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat, Cabaret). Heather Botts; Southern Methodist University faculty member Blake Hackler; SMU graduate student Steve Torres; SMU undergraduates Elizabeth Peterson, Hunter Ringsmith and Samantha Rios are each making their DTC debut. The A Christmas Carol youth cast includes Amelia Brown, Bella Saucer Ehring, John Franklin, Christopher Hernandez, Marlhy Murphy, David Allen Norton, Lauren Riley, Patricia Meza Román, Soleil Singh and Ben Villaseñor.

DTC has produced A Christmas Carol annually since 1984. This specific production of the holiday classic, adapted by Richard Hellesen and directed and choreographed by Joel Ferrell, originated in 2005, when DTC moved its annual holiday favorite from the Arts District Theater to the Kalita Humphreys Theater, in preparation for the construction of the Wyly Theatre. As DTC prepares to launch a brand new production of A Christmas Carol tailor-made for the Wyly in 2013, this year marks the final revival of this version at the Kalita.

Joel Ferrell will direct and choreograph this production of A Christmas Carol for the seventh time. "In the eight years since I selected this adaptation and first directed this production, the world has continued turning and things have certainly changed," says Ferrell, "but I believe the energy, love and sense of family this show creates will continue to live on for many years to come."

Returning to work with Ferrell are Lindy Heath Cabe (The Wiz) as musical director, Bob Lavallee (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat, Cabaret) as scenic designer, Wade Laboissonniere (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat, The Wiz) as costume designer, Matthew Richards (Dividing the Estate) as lighting designer and Curtis Craig (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat, Arsenic and Old Lace) as sound designer.

DTC has previously announced that it will partner with the North Texas Food Bank for the fifth consecutive year. DTC staff and A Christmas Carol cast members spent two days at the Food Bank sorting and packing food for North Texas residents. During performances of A Christmas Carol, DTC will provide a location for patrons to donate canned goods to the organization. Members of the cast will also collect monetary donations after every performance. Over the last four years, DTC patrons have donated over $175,000 to the NTFB.

A Christmas Carol begins previews on Tuesday, November 20 at 7:30pm with a Pay-What-You-Can performance. Tickets to this performance will be available for purchase online at www.DallasTheaterCenter.org. Any unsold tickets to the PWYC performance will be available for purchase at the Kalita Humphreys box office the night of the show. DTC's Stay Late program will take place after each performance. Patrons will have the opportunity to engage with artists, learn about the production and share insights about the play in a lively discussion. Tickets for A Christmas Carol are on sale now.
