The NSO Pops and Principal Pops Conductor Steven Reineke welcome one of the world's premier comedy troupes, The Second City, with renowned improvisational comedian Colin Mochrie, to the Kennedy Center Concert Hall for three performances to open the 2016-17 NSO Pops season, September 15-17, 2016. The Second City Guide to the Symphony is a live performance featuring a blend of original sketch comedy, new music and songs by Matthew Reid, and orchestral works by Mozart, Mahler, Glinka, and more.

This season's events will include discussions with Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow during his farewell season (TODAY, October 23); composer-conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and violinist Leila Josefowicz (October 28), who will discuss Mr. Salonen's Violin Concerto, written for Ms. Josefowicz (which they will perform with the Philharmonic in its New York Concert Premiere, October 30-November 5); Music Director Alan Gilbert and Executive Director Matthew VanBesien on the state of the Philharmonic (March 3, 2014); The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman (May 20, 2014), who will talk about Beethoven's piano concertos (which he will perform during The Beethoven Piano Concertos: A Philharmonic Festival, June 11-28, 2014); and discussions relating to the NY PHIL BIENNIAL, the details of which will be announced at a later date. Benjamin Zander and the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra are immensely proud to announce a tour by the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (BPYO) to The Netherlands. This trip is the culmination of an extraordinary founding year for the BPYO, and caps the successes the orchestra has had in Boston: two sold-out critically acclaimed performances at Symphony Hall and one at Sanders Theatre in Cambridge. The orchestra, comprising students aged 13 to 21, was founded with the intention of 'Shaping future leaders through music.' Boston can be proud that this week, in The Netherlands, these 116 students are cultural ambassadors for the USA.. The tour consists of: five performances at the highest level in the best concert halls in The Netherlands; a live national radio broadcast; working sessions, performances and social time with musicians from student orchestras ; a flash mob in the Amsterdam Metro system; and time for sight-seeing.
